Manaslu (8156m) is the eighth highest mountain in the world and a perfect choice for those who are interested in climbing one of the accessible and safest eight-thousanders. Manaslu is a name derived from the Sanskrit dialect, which means "Mountain of the Spirit". The Manaslu peak is a part of the Mansiri Himal or Gurkha Massif that lies in the north central part of Nepal, around 100km north west of Kathmandu. The mountain falls in the Manaslu Conservation Area and is closer to Annapurna Himal to the west and Ganesh Himal to the east.
The mountain's long ridges, steep surfaces, rock and snow formation and glaciers drainage make it the most fascinating mountain. There are six established trek routes to the peak, and the south face is deemed the most difficult for climbing.Manaslu was first climbed in 1956 by a Japanese expedition team led by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa. Since the Manaslu was first conquered by Japanese led Manaslu expedition team, Japanese people consider it as a Japanese mountain just like the British people considering Everest as their mountain
